Mom’s Secret Spaghetti Sauce

Meridith Barney
This spaghetti sauce is one that my mother taught me. She got it from a friend who worked at Pete's Place in Krebs, Ok. If you have never heard of it, it's an amazing Italian restaurant in southeast Oklahoma.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef browned
  • 3 16 oz cans tomato sauce
  • 1 8 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 16 oz can diced tomatoes drained
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 4 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 Tbsp diced garlic
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp sugar (I will fight over this one)

Instructions

  • Brown and drain beef.
  • Heat oil in large sauce pan over medium heat.
  • Add onion and minced garlic, cook until tender.
  • Add remaining ingredients including beef.
  • Heat until it begins to bubble. Turn heat to low.
  • Cook uncovered for two hours, stirring every thirty minutes or so.
  • Serve over pasta of choice with parm or mozarella cheese.
  • This also can be served over veggie noodles. Simply spiralize noodles and heat in a skillet with a little olive oil.

Notes

I add fresh herbs to this if I have them. I also use fresh tomatoes in place of the canned if I have them.
