Portobello Mushroom Burgers
This simple burger is elevated by the mushrooms. Using the large portabello mushrooms prevents the slipping and sliding of a regular burger.

Ingredients
- 1-2 lbs ground beef
- 2 large portobello mushrooms
- sliced swiss cheese
- salt and pepper
- desired condiments for a burgers (we just serve these with red onion and mayo).
- round, thin sandwich buns, these are critical for the mushroom and patty combo
Instructions
- Make burger patties, season with salt and pepper.
- Grill the burgers until they reach desired doneness.
- Slice the mushroom starting at the cap. You want to use a sharp, serrated knife. The mushroom slices will be a quarter-inch thick.
- Salt and pepper the mushroom slices and put them on the grill. When they become soft, top them with swiss cheese and let it melt.
- Serve the cheese-covered mushroom slice on top of the burger.
Notes
Thin sandwich buns are must-haves for our burgers. It lets the taste of the meat come through and there is less slipping around with toppings.
